Blossom explores the beauty of growth, renewal, and inner peace. Crafted with richly textured aso-òkè fabric, the piece portrays a woman whose calm presence radiates life and resilience. The birds and leaves symbolize harmony with nature and the flourishing of dreams. Through vibrant colors and layered fabrics, Blossom celebrates transformation and the strength found in nurturing one’s inner garden.
Blossom was born out of a deep reflection on the beauty of becoming, the silent strength that lies in growth even through adversity. I wanted to portray a woman whose calm yet confident expression speaks of resilience and grace. The leaves that crown her head symbolize flourishing thoughts, while the birds represent freedom, peace, and divine guidance, the gentle whispers that remind us to rise, soar, and embrace life’s unfolding seasons.
The work, made entirely with fragments of aso-òkè, carries a story of transformation. Each woven thread once belonged to something else, discarded, forgotten, or unused. By bringing them together, I give new life to what was once considered waste, much like how life gives us second chances to rebuild and thrive. The textures and colors mirror the diversity of our experiences, the joys, scars, and hopes that shape who we are.
Blossom reminds us that beauty often springs from brokenness, and that no stage of life is wasted. Just as nature renews itself, we too can bloom again, no matter the storms we have faced. This piece is a celebration of hope, rebirth, and the quiet power within every soul to blossom, even in the most unexpected places.
