Immersion captures a moment of calm reflection and renewal. Crafted with layers of aso-òkè, the artwork portrays a young boy partly submerged in water, symbolizing cleansing, growth, and rebirth. The water represents life’s ever-changing flow, while the boy’s peaceful gaze reflects innocence, courage, and hope. Immersion reminds us of the beauty found in stillness and the quiet strength that comes from embracing life’s depths.
Immersion was inspired by the idea of renewal and self discovery through life’s quiet moments. I wanted to capture the calm yet profound experience of being surrounded by something greater than oneself, a symbol of surrender, peace, and trust. The young boy, partially submerged in water, represents innocence and the human journey of learning to flow with life rather than fight against it.
The use of aso òkè fabric in this piece gives deeper meaning to the theme of transformation. Each woven strand once held its own story before becoming part of this composition. Just like the threads, we are all shaped by different experiences, and when these come together, they create something beautiful and whole. The shimmering tones of blue represent life’s fluidity, the highs and lows, the calm and the storm, while the boy’s tranquil gaze mirrors faith and resilience amidst uncertainty.
Immersion reminds us that growth often happens when we let go, when we allow ourselves to be still and embrace the process of becoming. It speaks of cleansing the soul, finding balance, and rediscovering strength in vulnerability. Through this work, I hope to encourage viewers to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the peace that lies within, to trust that even in life’s deep waters, we are never truly alone.
