'Onwa,' meaning 'moon' in Igbo, reflects my connection to Nigerian heritage through vibrant colors and textures. The luminous moon juxtaposed with geometric block structures, embellished with intricate Uli motifs, creates dynamic tension and cultural dialogue. Symbolic elements, such as the lizard and agworoagwo patterns, add depth and meaning to the piece. With 'Onwa,' I aim to honor the rich cultural legacy of Nsukka and Igbo art while exploring the boundaries of traditional forms.
Inspired by the Nsukka art school, UNN, this artwork explores the traditional Uli designs and patterns, blending them with modern techniques and materials.
