My work explores the significance of the number 3 and its attributes in our daily lives. Through various mediums, I examine how this number influences our perceptions and experiences. By delving into its mathematical, cultural, and symbolic meanings, I aim to reveal the underlying connections that shape our understanding of the world. This exploration invites viewers to reflect on the patterns and structures that govern their lives, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the often-overlooked significance of numbers in our everyday existence.
This concept is derived from the Yoruba phrase “Àrò méta kìí da obè nù,” meaning a three-footed pot will not spill boiling soup. This symbolizes stability, balance, and cooperation. Similarly, the Bible states, “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken,” highlighting the strength found in the number three.
The pattern of three connects to body, mind, and spirit, and reflects the cycle of birth, life, and death. The three wise men visited Jesus at his birth, and the story of the Three Musketeers resonates through history. Ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras deemed three a near-perfect number and a symbol of the divine.
Prophetically, the number three embodies completeness, wholeness, and harmony, appearing over 467 times in the Bible. The Holy Trinity represents the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, while Hinduism’s Trimurti consists of Brahma (creator), Vishnu (preserver), and Shiva (destroyer). Ancient Egyptians revered the triad of Osiris, Isis, and Horus, showcasing the spiritual significance of three across cultures.
In nature, we observe the Earth, Sun, and Moon, and time unfolds as past, present, and future. In sports, the phrase “On your marks, get set, go!” emphasizes the importance of three, as do traffic lights that ensure order on our roads. The recurring theme of three underscores its harmonizing significance in the balance, stability, and unity of our lives.
