Uyoyo Oni Avor Omor — meaning Love of a Mother and Child in Isoko (Ozoro) language — celebrates the sacred tenderness between mother and child. Crafted with colorful yarn on soft velvet material painted with black oil base color , the piece radiates warmth, resilience, and cultural beauty, honoring the Isoko women whose nurturing love and quiet strength shape generations.
Uyoyo Oni Avor Omor was born from my deep admiration for the Isoko women of Ozoro — mothers whose love speaks louder than words, whose hands carry both burden and blessing. Their daily rhythm, from farm to home, under the sun and rain, inspired me to translate that endurance into color, texture, and rhythm.
Using yarn on velvet material painted in black oil base color , I wanted to capture the softness of affection and the strength hidden within tenderness. Every strand of yarn represents an emotion — love, sacrifice, patience, and unspoken prayers whispered through years of nurturing. The velvet symbolizes warmth, while the bold hues express the pulse of motherhood — alive, fierce, and protective.
Through this piece, I explore the timeless dialogue between mother and child — where love becomes both shield and seed. The mother’s embrace is not just care; it’s culture passed down, spirit renewed, and identity preserved.
In creating this work, I felt a deep sense of peace, as though every thread carried the heartbeat of the women who raised generations before me. Uyoyo Oni Avor Omor is a visual hymn — a celebration of motherhood, resilience, and the eternal comfort found in a mother’s arms.
