Defiance of a Rebel was born out of my fascination with quiet resistance. I was thinking a lot about youth, about that stage in life when you start to understand who you are and what the world expects of you, and how those two things often collide. I wanted to capture that moment, not as rebellion for rebellion’s sake, but as an awakening, a claiming of self.
The figure came to me as a vision of calm defiance. Her stillness is her protest. The dark lenses shield her, but they also challenge you to look deeper. Wrapped in green, she carries renewal and vitality, but on her, the color becomes armor, a quiet declaration of independence. She embodies that pivotal moment in youth when the weight of one's voice is first discovered, when conformity begins to feel like a cage and authenticity becomes an act of courage.
While working on the piece, I thought of moments when I too had to choose authenticity over acceptance, and how that quiet choice can feel both empowering and isolating. Defiance of a Rebel is my reflection on the strength required for such choices — composed, unyielding, and deeply personal. This work is my tribute to self-possession, to finding freedom and the courage to stand your ground with grace.
