Steps of the Soil” is a mixed-media piece crafted with thread, leather, and acrylic on board. It embodies the rhythm and resilience of the Isoko woman, grounded in her bond with the land. The layered textures and earthy tones evoke movement, memory, and pride — a tribute to women whose daily steps echo strength, culture, and continuity.
“Steps of the Soil” is inspired by the enduring strength and grace of the Isoko women of Ozoro. Growing up, I watched them journey barefoot through the red earth, balancing basins and baskets while nurturing their families and sustaining the community. Their quiet resilience, dignity, and bond with the land became the heartbeat of this piece — a reflection of womanhood, endurance, and heritage.
Through thread, leather, and acrylic layered on board, I sought to capture both the texture of their labor and the rhythm of their spirit. The thread represents connection — each strand a path between generations. Leather embodies strength and tradition, while acrylic strokes flow over the surface, symbolizing movement, emotion, and transformation. Together, these materials tell a story of rooted grace — of women who walk with history beneath their feet.
As I worked, each stitch and stroke became an act of remembrance — a tribute to the women whose steps carved identity into the soil. “Steps of the Soil” embodies the soul of EchoMind Culture: art that remembers, heals, and awakens. It is a visual prayer for every woman who carries both weight and wisdom, proving that the earth itself remembers their rhythm.
