About the Artist

Full name: Temple Udofia Artist name: Templearts

I was born in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, but my roots are in Ini Local Government. The youngest of five children, I grew up in a home shaped by discipline, creativity, and resilience. My father, an intelligent man, is a village chief, a tailor, and a farmer, while my mother, a hardworking civil servant, carried the weight of our upbringing with her sacrifice and care. Much of who I am, I owe to them.

My journey as an artist began at the age of five. To play alongside my older sister who loved to draw, I picked up a pencil, and soon it became inseparable from me. Though I am reserved by nature, drawing gave me a voice and a way to express myself. Growing up in Uyo, where art is not widely celebrated, I found comfort in creating. It became both my delight and my escape from the pressure of reality.

As I advanced in school, my love for science and engineering grew alongside my art. I became known for both my experiments and my portraits, building small inventions while sketching lifelike drawings. When tools for science became too costly, I leaned more deeply into drawing, discovering that all I truly needed was a pencil and paper.

Today, I study Electrical Electronics Engineering at the University of Uyo while pursuing art with equal passion. My works, drawn with pencil, pen, and charcoal ,carry fragments of my thoughts, emotions, and faith as a Christian. Influenced by self-learning and guided by Etuk Unyime, a master realist, I’ve grown into an artist who sees each piece as a reflection of life.

From my quiet beginnings, I dream of seeing my art displayed in museums across the world, where it can speak to people far beyond the place it was created.

Artist statement: I create realistic and expressive drawings using graphite, charcoal, and hatching techniques. My work captures emotions and hidden truths, often through the faces of children. Each piece is a reflection of life, faith, and stories often overlooked.
